(Calgary, Alberta): Federal Conservative and Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre recently took to the podium at the Calgary Stampede to address the news that’s been circulating about possible Chinese and Indian government interference in Canadian politics.
“This is big news, really, the top story of our times,” said Poilievre while sporting a ten-gallon and pair of old Cowboy boots loaned to him by former Prime Minister Stephen Harper. “All I hear are people going on about how we need to dig deeper into political interference from China and India and I couldn’t echo these concerns any louder. After all, how else am I going to thank these good folks for their support in the victory of my own party leadership race?”
Poilievre made the light-hearted comment to loud cheers of support from those gathered there and referred to the report from the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians (NSICOP) that alleged there were multiple instances of China helping sway the results of at least 2 recent Conservative Party leadership races.
“Some people might think poorly about having foreign, and frankly hostile, governments interfere in the way we do things here. But let me tell you, we need to consider the end rather than the means. I mean how else did you expect a back-bench Harper crony like me to have a landslide victory against a veteran politician with a great track record of successful initiatives like Jean Charest? Do you think TikTok and Reddit bots did all the hard work alone?”
